In the project "Reactive filter to fix phosphorus on the Baltic seafloor" professor Gunno Renman from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, has examined whether reactive filter, or sorbents, can be used as a new method for long-term fixing of phosphorus in the bottom sediment of the Baltic Sea. This report has been prepared within the framework of the project and concludes the results from the study. The results suggest that opportunities to develop a method in a sustainable manner could block internal cycling of phosphorus in the Baltic Sea, if large parts of the anoxic bottoms are treated.

The project ran for a period of one year (2012-13), and was funded by BalticSea2020.
