In the Baltic Sea the Bothnian Sea is generally considered the major sink for phosphorus, trapping the nutrient and counteracting cyanobacterial blooms. Still, no one has measured the actual phosphorus burial in this basin – something that will be done in the project “Phosphorus dynamics in the Baltic Sea: quantifying the Bothnian Sea burial sink”.
